La Han Pagoda, also known as Vinh Thien Tu, is located at 131 Dien Bien Phu Street, Ward 8, Soc Trang City. About 4 hours from Ho Chi Minh City, this is a place loved by many Buddhists near and far.
The statue of Buddha Sakyamuni becomes a spiritual symbol at La Han Pagoda
La Han Pagoda is an ancient Chinese pagoda in Soc Trang province, first built in 1952 with simple wooden and leaf architecture. Because the pagoda worships the image of 18 arhats, people call it La Han Pagoda to this day.
In 1956, a big storm caused severe damage to the pagoda, and local people donated to rebuild it with a more solid brick and tile architecture. After many renovations, in 1990, the main hall was built and a statue of Buddha was worshiped here.
Since then, the temple has been known not only for the image of the Arhats, but also for Buddha at the center of the main hall.
The large Buddha statue was built by Green Environment
The temple has undergone many renovations, adding more items and later, Mr. Thai Tuan (Director of Tan Hue Vien Pia Cake – Sausage Company) called for donations, upgraded and renovated the temple to become spacious and unique as it is today.
With his heart towards the temple, Mr. Thai Tuan invested in expanding the temple, raising the temple to 2m high, and buying more land for the temple grounds. In early May 2021, Mr. Thai Tuan called on friends, Buddhists, associations, etc. to donate to build a statue of Buddha Shakyamuni for the temple and assigned Sculpture and Landscape Joint Stock Company Green Environment as the main contractor.
The temple attracts visitors with its unique architecture. It can be said that this is a temple with unique architecture, with a special artistic direction in the Southern region. The sacred statue of Buddha Shakyamuni sitting in the front yard makes the temple stand out more than ever.
This is also the wish of Green Environment when designing and constructing the large Buddha statue at the temple.
